Tigers rule supreme e Tuesday Edition THE SOUTH EASTERN TIMES Saints fi nally do come marching in Season ending and drought breaking victory DAVE TURNER McLAUGHLIN Park took on an after match grand fi nal atmosphere on Saturday when the Millicent Saints pulled off the surprise of the 2014 Western Border Football League season in defeating West Gambier. Sitting third on the ladder, West entered the match as “red hot” favourites while the home side was looking for its fi rst victory of the year. The young Saints, with half of their side having played less than 20 senior games, took it up to their more fancied opponents as they tied four quarters of tough football together to record a memorable win. This saw the umpires stamp their authority on the game by yellow carding Millicent’s Mitchell Gordon and West’s Bradley Wilson. The Roos were the fi rst to score with Nicolas Allen having a set shot from a slight angle, but a minor score resulted. However shortly after Nathan Lewis received a free 20 metres out and made no mistake. Millicent went into attack from the centre bounce but could only record a point. Joe Walker had a chance to bring the score back to even terms when he received a 50 metre penalty to take him into scoring range but he also kicked inaccurately. THE CONSISTENT ONE: Nat Robbins has been – arguably – Millicent’s most consistent player this season. 24 - The South Eastern Times, Tuesday, August 26, 2014 Nat Robbins and Mason Redman were keeping the Saints in the game with many touches through the centre but they couldn’t fi nd a winning forward.
