4 NEWS Principal graduates to high school FORMER Newbery Park Primary School principal and Tantanoola teacher Chris Edmonds is now in charge of the region’s largest public school. He has been promoted to Mount Gambier High School principal, overseeing 100 staff and almost 1000 students. Mr Edmonds headed the Millicent school from 2007 until mid-way through last year. In addition to his role as a classroom teacher at Tantanoola Primary School, Mr Edmonds had a high sporting profile in Millicent in the 1990s. He played football with Millicent and then spent one season as playing coach of the Tantanoola Football Club. Last year, Mr Edmonds was chosen as the Limestone Coast regional award winner in the category for principals in the third annual South Australian Public Teaching Awards. During his 25 year career, Mr Edmonds has worked at 10 schools. More than just fuel. A ROSE planting ceremony in Millicent this week will celebrate 100 years of Red Cross in Australia. Wattle Range Councillor Sharon Cox will host the ceremony at the Millicent Visitor Information Centre on Sunday, September 14. Roses will be planted to pay homage to the dedicated service of Red Cross Tantanoola branch members Elwynne Egan, Joan Engel and Mona Chant. Ms Egan’s 70-year contribution to the Tantanoola branch will be commemorated in the ceremony, along with Ms Engel’s 65 years and Ms Chant’s 60 year service record. EARLY YEARS DEVELOPMENT: Mount Gambier Child Care Centre director Fiona Paltridge was presented with the Dianne Manhood Commitment to Excellence in Early Years award by Wattle Range Council chief executive officer Peter Harriott during the ECHO Early Years Forum. Education discussed Forum explores early childhood learning MORE than 100 early childhood educators were inspired by guest speakers at the 2014 ECHO Early Years Forum in Mount Gambier. Held at TAFE SA, participants were motivated by speakers from Echo South Australia and South East educators who shared stories. Joint projects between early childhood services and the Mount Gambier City Council were celebrated during the event. Blue Lake and South East Coast and Vines Partnership education director Adam Box congratulated all educators on their commitment to learning and working with families.
