Grand fi nalists decided From page 18 However, the pressure of the Demons; defence line made feeding the ball in diffi cult. Port MacDonnell stretched the lead through the third quarter, which gave it some breathing space when Narelle Lewis was carried off with a suspected achilles injury. ON THE LOOKOUT: The Eagles’ Kaitlin Smith looks for a free Hatherleigh player, while Robe’s Keely Mason defends. The Demons maintained the lead heading into three quarter time, but they were not able to hang onto it in the fourth term. Kalangadoo came to play in the fi nal term and turned the scores around with some tight defence by Samantha Collins and Amy Bruins through the mid-court. B reserve: Hatherleigh 50 d Port MacD. 41 AN even first quarter saw Hatherleigh and Port MacDonnell push hard to gain a lead over their opponents. The hot conditions steadied the pace of the mid-court battle between the Demons Janine Merrett and Hatherleigh’s Karen Bowman. Accurate shooting by Hatherleigh and impressive feeding by Jill Paul saw the Eagles go into the main break with a fi ve goal lead. The Demons worked hard to make the most of every centre pass. The defensive wing was a strength of Hatherleigh’s with Bec Bowering coming on at half time and driving hard out of defence. Teresa Andre created a number of turnovers with the help of Staci Faulkner and Fiona Jackman in the defensive goal circle. At the other end, Sally McBain and Kelly Habner worked hard for Port MacDonnell, but Hatherleigh’s Sarah Palmer and Hannah Proud continued to shoot accurately. Despite calling time for Megan Perryman in the fi nal term, she continued to work hard to gain possession. With all the hard work being done early, Hatherleigh managed to stretch its lead to nine by the fi nal whistle. Saturday will see Hatherleigh face a strong Tantanoola side. 17&U: Hatherleigh 42 d Port MacDonnell 38 HATHERLEIGH was quick to take the lead against Port MacDonnell. The Eagle’ defenders Demi Smith and Emily Nettle took a number of turnovers to benefi t their side. The Demons’ goalies struggled to fi nd space in the circle with Maddie Murdoch and Georgia Pratt taking time to settle. Port MacDonnell was given a chance to respond with Hatherleigh’s mid-court playing its quick paced game. Josie Finnigan and Taylor Wilsmore applied great defensive pressure for the Demons, causing Abbie Wight and Grace Chay to uncharacteristically miss shots. Wight went off injured in the second with Cody Manning moving into goals for the Eagles. Persistent defensive pressure across the court allowed Port MacDonnell to stretch a lead of two at the main break. The mid-court drive between Hatherleigh’s Sophie Bishop and Port MacDonnell’s Ady Neshoda was impressive, with both fi ghting hard for the ball. Wight came back on in the second half and the Demons stretched the lead early in the third. However, the Eagles worked hard to achieve a one goal margin in the fi nal break. The Demons worked hard to stay in the game, but the Eagles were too strong scoring off their turnovers, to win by four goals. This weekend will see the dominant Kalangadoo come up against a tough Eagles team. 15&U: Robe 60 d Tantanoola 35 THE talented Robe side secured a comfortable win against Tantanoola on the weekend. Both teams fought hard in the fi rst quarter as they went goal for goal. Robe was quick to make the most of missed shots, sending the ball back into their attack line. However, both sides were struggling to convert as their nerves took time to settle. The Roosters attack line worked hard to capitalise on every opportunity. However, at the other end of the court, Victoria Lucas and Lauren Fensom combined well to sink any scoring opportunities for the Tigers. Robe’s Lucy Perkins and Tantanoola’s Julie Brown had a strong tussle through the midcourt, but Perkins was just a touch quicker to transition the ball into the Rooster’s attack line. Robe stretched the lead to 25 by the fi nal whistle in a well fought game by both teams. The win sees Robe in a strong position to take on an in-form Hatherleigh in the grand fi nal. 13&U: Robe 44 d Mount Burr 32 IN a rematch of last year’s grand fi nal, Robe and Mount Burr came out fi ghting with tight defensive pressure up and down the court. The Mozzies’ Sophie Falting and Maddie Butler worked hard to fi nd space in the goal circle and shot with accuracy. Through the centre court, Anna Fox worked hard against Robe’s Lucy Smith to cause turnovers for her team. After contested netball, the scores were even at half time, with neither being able to make a break. The Roosters put Chloe Venn into goal attack and Belle Sneath on at wing attack at the main break, which assisted in them fi nding a three goal lead at the fi nal break. Sophie Goode worked hard in her fi rst fi nal match and drove hard at the ball with a never give up attitude. Mount Burr worked tirelessly and never gave up, keeping the scores even through the remainder of the match. However, it could not make up the margin obtained in the third term. The Roosters’ defence in Kristen and Johana Nunan worked hard to create additional scoring opportunities and Halle Carter converted with ease. The Roosters came away with a 12 goal win and face Kalangadoo this Saturday. The South Eastern Times, Tuesday, September 9, 2014 - 17
