Dallas races to the top Young rider crowned junior motorcycle champion MUSTILLO RAQUEL journo1@setimes.com.au T just 12-years-old, motorbike racer Dallas Skeer is already on track to become the next Valentino Rossi. Five months into his debut year of racing, the South East resident took out first place in the 80cc Junior division at the 2014 Hartwell Motorcycle Club road racing championship series. “It feels good to be the quickest 12-year-old and the second best junior in the country,” he said. “To get the results that I have in my first year of competitive racing is a great feeling.” Dallas clocked fastest lap times at the first two rounds of the championship held at Mount Gambier’s Mac Park and the State Motorcycle Complex in Broadford, Victoria. “We race in five rounds and have one race each day, but there is a lot of practice that goes on before that,” he said. “One of the rounds we raced was at the Phillip Island racetrack and that was a really good experience.” His form on the racetrack has developed from a 10-year involvement with motorbikes, a passion inherited from his father. The South Eastern Times, Thursday, September 11, 2014 - 23 “My dad is a rider and I’ve been riding bikes since I was two years old,” he said. “I can’t wait to ride Dad’s historic Manxs once I turn 16. “My dream is to get to the MotoGP level and ride alongside the world’s best.” The junior’s already impressive record is set to be improved with the superstar racer confident a new addition to the racing team will help him hit higher targets. “This year we rode a Honda CR 80 in a RS 125 road racing frame,” he said. “We just bought an Italian RMU 80 and I’m going to be racing that all next season. “It is a top of the range bike that feels good to ride and looking forwar racing with it.” When the talented rider is not chasing top speed, Dallas is hitting thrilling heights on the off-road circuit. “I like to ride bikes and I do a bit of motocross, which is a really good way for me to keep fit and in form,” he said. “It’s good practice and it is a bit of fun outside of the competitive racing.” SUPERSTAR: Dallas Skeer has been crowned the 80cc junior champion of the Hartwell Motorcycle Club road racing championships.
