Sports star nominees Countdown to Pines Enduro MORRIS ROD rod.morris@tbw.com.au YOU can almost hear the ticking over of the engines, smell the rubber burning and feel the atmopshere. The annual ARB Off Road Racing Series hits the Limestone Coast this week, offi cially starting tomorrow and running through to Sunday at Teagle’s Quarry on the outskirts of Millicent for the Pines Enduro. This weekend represents the fi fth and fi nal round of the Australian Off Road Championships and the third round of the South Australian series and a fi eld of 85 drivers from around the country and New Zealand are expected on the start line. A prize pool of $25,000 is enough carrot to get drivers and their crews to Millicent to chase the all-vital points and prizemoney. The pine forest plantations at Millicent is famed Australia wide and the event is extremely popular on the calendar of this arm of motor sport. Tomorrow SCRUTINEERING for all cars will take place at the race venue between 5pm and 9pm and the cavalcade of vehicles all in the one spot provides the ideal opportunity for the general public to “get up close and personal.” Saturday THE Hards Transport Prologue is scheduled to start at 12.30pm, giving all entrants the chance to show their wares against the clock and earn a top chance grid position. The Prologue course is entirely visible from the spectator area. The South Eastern Times Top 10 shoot-out will follow and will only be open to the leading 10 vehicles from the Prologue. The shoot-out will offer the drivers another chance to improve their starting position for the following day. Rounding off the second day will be the Coates Hire Dash for Cash LOCAL CHANCES: Mount Gambier father and son duo, Murray and Jake England will race in the Super 1650 Buggy class. where the four fastest cars from each class will race alongside each other in the chance to win some handy dollars. The cars that competed in the Top 10 shoot-out are excluded from the Dash for Cash. One lucky on-course spectator will win the chance to ride in one Sunday THE tingle of race day will get the adrenalin running earlier as the SPECIALS Wednesday 15th October ‘til Tuesday 21st October 2014 of the competing off-road cars. By purchasing an event program, one buyer will fi nd a red dot, signalling he/she has won the prize. fi rst of the 80-plus entries heads off at 8.30am with the aim of beating the clock and their opponents. General THE Pines Enduro course is laid out on a 60km course in which each driver is expected to complete six laps for a total of 420km over the weekend. Drivers will start two at a time at 30 second intervals. Competitors will be allowed a 30 minute break after both laps 2 and 4.
