Former Millicent High School staff led the board in the Limestone Coast in the past two years. Old scholar Gwenda Lawlor of Furner was the deputy chairman while former teacher Dr Ruth Schubert served as chairman. The new RDA chairman is former Tatiara Mayor Richard Vickery with retired ABC Radio Mount Gambier station manager Alan Richardson as deputy. With 10 members on the RDA board, Ms Lawlor is now the only one with a connection to the Millicent district. The Millicent district for- merly had a strong presence on the Limestone Coast RDA board but former Wattle Range Mayor Mark Braes, current Mayor Peter Gandolfi and educator Moira Neagle all resigned from their positions in 2012. Last year, Millicent residents and Wattle Range Council elected members were overlooked for membership. Councillors Peter Dunnicliff and John Drew received the backing of Wattle Range Council and their nominations went to a special meeting of the South East Local Government Association for consideration. However, the successful nominees were Mr Vickery, Naracoorte Lucindale Mayor Erika Vickery and Grant Mayor Richard Sage. Former councillor Darren O’Halloran of Tantanoola was appointed to the RDA board as a SELGA representative in 2013 and he resigned last year. Photography competition changes ‘level playing field’ PHOTOGRAPHERS across the region are encouraged to enter their best images into the Rotary Club of Millicent’s 2015 Photographic Art Show. Organisers have called for entries in four categories - landscape, portrait, nature and an open theme - to share in a prize pool of over $6000. The show’s committee member Mary Altschwager said the format of this year’s exhibition would differ from previous years. “We decided this year all submitted entries must be 12 inches by 18 inches and they have to be presented framed and ready to hang,” she said. “It is a uniform size print, but it is up to the photographer to choose what frame they would like to exhibit in. “By having all of the images the same size, we hope it will level the playing field for all entrants.” The Millicent Civic and Arts Centre will host the exhibition with the opening on Friday, March 27. Last year’s competition attracted almost 230 entries. “Photography is an extremely popular form of art in the region, as demonstrated through the popularity of past Rotary exhibitions and the Wattle Range competition,” Ms Altschwager said. “A lot of people think the photographic show is only open to professionals or semiprofessional photographers, but it is open to everyone.” Ms Altschwager said she was particularly hopeful to gain more entrants in the under 19 age group category. “We had 50 entries in the under 19 age group last year and we would really like to see that number increase again,” she said. “The Moran Arts Foundation is coming to the South East again and will be conducting student workshops, which is great. Entry fees are $20 per entry for adults and $10 per entry for participants in the under 19 category. More than one entry entitles the entrant to a free ticket to the opening event. Entry forms must be submitted by post on Monday, February 16, and photographs must be delivered to the Millicent Public Library or received by mail to PO Box 277, Millicent, 5280 by Tuesday, March 10. Forms are available at wattlerange.sa.gov. au or can be emailed to rotaryphotographs@ gmail.com upon request. minijumbuk naracoorTe cup sunday 8 February 2015 Gates open 10am | General admission $15 Concession $10 | Children U/16 FREE Coopers Home Straight Marquee $125pp FREE Kids activities including boucy castleFREE kids activities including bouncy castle Fashions on the Field- great prizes the Field- great przies!
