2 MSEFL 2015 PREVIEW President’s welcome to 2015 season PETER MITCHELL MSEFL President WELCOME to the commencement of the 2015 football and netball season. It only seems like yesterday that we were at last year’s grand final. I take this opportunity to welcome all existing and new players, coaches, supporters, volunteers and sponsors to our league. Last year was a successful year in the “Family League” for the Mid South Eastern Football League and we are looking forward to another exciting season ahead. With all clubs being active recruiting over the summer, I believe that all clubs will have high expectations and we will see another season with an even competition in the senior grade. We thank all of our sponsors for their wonderful support of our league. The executive team has had some minor responsibility changes and consists of Peter Davies – senior vice president, Robert Halliday – junior vice president, Dennis Muhovics, Lu McInnes, Naomi Mitchell – secretary and Mel Leibhardt – assistant secretary. The executive have been working hard over the summer to put in place more processes to assist all clubs once again this year. Neil Webber has been appointed as umpires director for his fourth season and Gavin Motley is assistant umpires director. The umpires require some new umpires to assist our aging umpiring body, so if you have recently retired from playing or would like to be still involved in the game, then umpiring is a great way to keep fit, give back to the game and perhaps get to know some of the players and club people from a different side. Peter Walter is the new president of the junior league and will be assisted by Ian Leibhardt. The juniors still have room for two more on their executive and would be interested to talk to any interested people. A challenge for the team is managing the Zone/Interleague games on the Saturday and Sunday of the June long weekend. Once again, I’m pleased that the league can offer this opportunity for more of our juniors to be involved at a higher level. We look forward to working closely with the netball association with new president Sara Gray and her committee. Thanks to all the media out- lets for the coverage our league receives and we look forward to another exciting season in 2015. The MSEFL website www. msefl.com.au is constantly being updated and is a wonderful source of information about our clubs and league. All of our sponsors are acknowl- edged as well as many other aspects of the competition, so I encourage you all to explore and investigate the website for any information. The pre-season cup results were updated after every match was completed on the day and we intend to continue to distribute all football results to the media via emails from the website from 5.40pm every Saturday night of the season. On behalf of the league and all clubs thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that assist each week. If you don’t currently volunteer for your club, then please consider assisting with your time/skills wherever possible to make your club more successful and to share the workload. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and improve your skills as well as knowing that you have supported and assisted your club – so don’t hold back! The sixth Pre-Season Cup was held at Glencoe and it was pleasing to see all clubs participating in football and netball. The event is a great opportunity for all clubs to be at the one venue to participate and see the opposition and catch up with old friends. Congratulations to last week- end’s teams that reached the Pre-Season Cup and to Glencoe in its effort in hosting the event. The league executive welcomes all feedback from clubs, coaches, players and supporters to assess any further changes that may be implemented and we look forward to improving the format where we can for next season and beyond. On behalf of the executive we wish all clubs the best of luck for the season and also look forward to commonsense, good sportsmanship and fairness being displayed at all times. Congratulations to our 2014 premiers in all grades, Kalangadoo (seniors), Tantanoola (reserves), Kongorong (senior colts) and Hatherleigh (junior colts). I’m sure as another season begins that you all will be striving to again reach that ultimate pinnacle of premiership glory. The AGM held in November saw a couple of changes to our executive structure. We farewelled two stalwarts of our league from the executive in Gary Nilsson and Ed Fensom. Both gentlemen have on Good Friday isn’t to everyone’s liking, only time will tell as to the success of playing on such a contentious day. Our “Family League” continues to grow from strength-to-strength with strong numbers across all football and netball clubs. Our unique family environment and strong community spirit amongst our clubs is unsurpassed in the region and no doubt has been a key selling point to many potential recruits during the off season. NAOMI MITCHELL, MSEFL SECRETARY contributed an enormous amount of time for the betterment of our league. Thank you for your commitment to our organisation. Without people willing to put club loyalty aside for the betterment of our league we simply wouldn’t be where we are today. And as one door closes another one opens and we welcome to the executive Rob Halliday, who has also taken on the role of junior vicepresident. Remaining execu- tive positions remain unchanged with Peter Mitchell re-elected as president and Peter Davies, senior vicepresident. There have also been a number of changes to club personnel over the summer months and I look forward to catching up with all club presidents and secretaries during the season. We begin the year with a Good Friday fixture between Robe and Mount Burr. This was an initiative of the Robe Football Club and whilst playing This year the MSEFL will host the now annual South East Zone Carnival between neighbouring leagues, WBFL and KNTFL. Last year’s matches were some of the best country football you will get to see and I look forward to working with the host club to showcase our hospitality to the region. To all participants in either football or netball, I wish you all the very best for the coming season. May you have an exciting and enjoyable year and hopefully come finals time your team will be actively involved. Have a great 2015 season.
