Funds raised at the walk will be donated towards the new chemotherapy unit at the Mount Gambier and FAMILY: Grace, Paddy, Kellie and William Chay (front) with dog Millie eagerly await the Millicent Walks 2 Fight Cancer event on Sunday. Districts Health Service. “We are extremely fortunate to have chemotherapy available in Mount Gambier and it is a lot better than going to Adelaide,” Ms Werchon said “The group is hoping to buy some equipment for the Mount Gambier facility to make local people more comfortable and to take their minds off what is happening. “As much as it is not going to be in Millicent, it is going to help a lot of Millicent people.” Of the many participants expected to walk, jog and run the course, the Chay family is looking forward to participating in their fifth consecutive Mother’s Day walk. “We have been doing it since it (started) and it is a great activity to go as a family,” Kellie Chay said. “There are affirmations that have been posted around the course and as we go around we always take it in turns to read them out. “The shortbread biscuits and lollipops are always a lovely treat once you have finished the course.” Scam warning issued following tax debt calls MILLICENT police are urging residents to be wary of callers claiming to represent the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), following multiple reports of an apparent scam. Several residents have received bogus phone calls from individuals posing as ATO employees attempting to recover outstanding tax debts. The callers typically demand about $3000 and threaten to contact police unless immediate payment is made. Of the residents who have reported the scam to police, none have forwarded money to the callers, but all claim the callers have been threatening and demanding in their demeanour. The caller’s number is not connected to the Australian Taxation Office. Police are encouraging residents to spread the word and discuss this scam with family, friends and workmates who may be less technologicallysavvy about the type of offending. Numerous callers to the office of The South Eastern Times this week have told of receiving phone calls from the scammers. A Millicent man said his wife had taken a call at home on the couple’s landline around 4pm on Monday. “My wife took down the phone number to return the call,” the man said. “When we tried to phone back, the call could not be connected. “We feel the Millicent community should be alerted to this scam.” A similar appeal was made by a Millicent woman who said she was phoned at 8.40am on Tuesday. “I was told that I owed about $3000 to the tax office and I knew that this was definitely not the case,” the woman said. “The caller made a number of threats, such as deportation. “I think older people could be quite upset if they receive such calls.” STEEL, ROOFING AND FENCING SUPPLIES 3MP For all your steel, rooFing and Fencing supplies including: • Roofing and fencing materials (all Colorbond colours available) • Gutters up to 8m flashings (made to order) • Screws and fasteners • Sheds made to order Phone 8734 4394 or 0427 545 031 30% ALL WINE IN ANY 6 OR MORE BOTTLE BUY www.thesoutheasterntimes.com.au EACH $ OFF ‡ 7 a SAVE $ 599 Wolf Blass Red Label 750ml# $ EACH 10 a SAVE $ 499 Evans & Tate Classic 750ml# $ EACH 11 a SAVE $ 699 Yellowglen Vintage Bella Pink Moscato 750ml $ EACH 14 a SAVE $ 599 Cat Amongst The Pigeons Barossa 750ml# H C $ 20 EACH a $ 999 SAVE Bird In Hand Adelaide Hills Sparkling Pinot Noir 750ml TODAY’S SPECIAL bws.com.au | Call 1300 138 297* We support the responsible service of alcohol.
