Gold Cup Carnival REVOR A JACKSON REVOR A JACKSON trevor@tbw.com.au trevor@tbw.com.au has been a big week for the Mount Gambier Racing Club in the lead up to the Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup Carnival. While it may not be the race that stops the nation, the meeting is certainly the jewel in the crown of the racing calendar in the Limestone Coast. However, it is more than just two days of racing. It all began with Breakfast with the Stars last Saturday at the Allan Scott Glenburnie Racecourse with allowed the general public to mingle with owners, trainers, jockeys and officials. A cocktail party was held last night at City Hall while the Scott Group of Companies Hygain Race Day is on today. Today’s events focus on the Prostrate Cancer Foundation of Australia with a luncheon in the upstairs dining room at the racecourse. There will be a guest appearance from champion jockey Brent Thomson and all proceeds raised will go the foundation. A Cup Calcutta will be held tonight at the Gambier Hotel from 8pm with meals available prior to the Calcutta draw and of course it all culminates with the running of the Gold Cup tomorrow. The day will include the ever-popular Fashions on the Field, which provides as much interest as the races themselves. Last year’s solo winner Lucy Duke looked stunning in her classic black-and-white outfit, with the same colour combinations tipped to be popular this year. Whether a casual or dedicated race fan, the Gold Cup week is one that brings the best out in the community, with people of all ages heading along to have a flutter on the races, take in the fashions or simply enjoy the glitz and glamour that is a major race meeting. So remember, there is nothing like a day at the races. thursday 14th & friday 15th May 2015 aLLaN sCOtt GLENBurNiE raCECOursE Big week for Mount Gambier Racing Club ALL SMILES: It was all smiles for the winners of the 2014 Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup (pictured from left) John O’Connor (Mount Gambier Racing Club president), Ray Scott (Scott Group of Companies), Kane Post (representing winning trainer, Wayne Walters), Peyton Post, Kate Walters (winning jockey) and Jade Barkley (strapper).
