14 ADVERTISING FEATURE Federal Environment Minister welcomes Hyundai as Clean Air Champion FEDERAL Environment Minister, The Hon Greg Hunt MP, has welcomed Hyundai Motor Company Australia as the latest Clean Air Champion, under the National Clean Air Agreement. The appointment is in recognition of the commitment the company has shown in working towards introduction of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) to the Australian market. Hyundai has not only brought the first permanently Australian based FCEV to the country, for testing and education work, but also built Australia’s first and only Hydrogen Fuel Cell car refueling station at its Macquarie Park, NSW, headquarters. 671153 14 - Carsmart The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell is a car that uses the most abundant element in nature as a fuel, has a 600km range and emits only water vapour from its exhaust pipe. It can be fully fuelled in only seven minutes and has the same functionality as its fossil-fuelled brethren - it’s as practical and useful as any ix35. In addition the Hydrogen gas required can be produced utilising nothing more than solar power and water. Minister Hunt made the Hyundai Clean Air Champion announcement at the annual assembly of the Australian Local Government Association, attended by over 800 local government councilors, Mayors and administrators, at which Hyundai has been presenting the ix35 Fuel Cell’s remarkable technology to the delegates. To highlight the zero emission performance of the Hyundai FCEV Minister Hunt was chauffeured, in the ix35 Fuel Cell, from Parliament House to the National Convention Centre in Canberra then right into the lobby of the building to join the delegates in their presession morning coffee. According to Minister Hunt “The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell offers a technology that can reduce Australia’s urban air pollution and our greenhouse gas emissions. It is in a sense a modern miracle - it’s a really exciting pointer to future green motoring that can deliver cleaner air for our nation.” “We are excited that Hyundai has decided to come on board as a Clean Air Champion. The work they are doing in educating the public and media on this totally clean technology is an important part of building the momentum for viable green motoring options.” The Clean Air Champions Initiative was launched on 12 June 2015. The Initiative will support engagement with industry representatives and the community to help raise awareness of key government policy priorities that relate to clean air. The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell is the first FCEV in full series production and is offered for lease to individuals and companies in the USA, Canada and Germany. FCEV refuelling infrastructure is being rolled out in all of those markets. Hyundai Australia is undertaking extensive testing, partner and authority consultations and target audience education, around the ix35 Fuel Cell and is investigating the opportunities for bringing future FCEV models to the Australian market.
