THE SOUTH EASTERN TIMES Basketballers face off pa 30ge Juniors set for finals DUAL ROLE: Mitchell Nitschke has served the Millicent Black Hats well as a batsman and wicket-keeper. Home town rivals clash and with three flags in the past five seasons, Footballers are the pre-game favourite. J.L. ‘FRED’ SMITH fred@setimes.com.au TRADITIONAL rivals will clash when the Millicent and District Cricket Association premiership is decided at the main oval at McLaughlin Park on Saturday. The Millicent Footballers Cricket Club is playing in its sixth consecutive grand final while the members of the Millicent Cricket Club have also seen plenty of action deep into the month of March in recent years. They might be all good mates over winter but the summer months are a time of intense rivalry. That match will be forever known as the Luke Cushion Grand Final as the veteran Black Hat all-rounder smashed 80 and then took 6/31. After a season’s break, Cushion is back in the mix this season and his current team mates who played in the last flag team three years ago are current skipper Hamish Nitschke, Michael Gibson, Pat Lawlor, Steve Duldig, Cooper Hamilton and David Dunn. There is a great weight of expectation on the Millicent Footballers who have been the measuring stick for the competition for a long time.
