ALL ON THE LINE: Millicent’s Jonah Grimes will face Casterton/ Sandford for the second time in the 2017 Western Border season on Saturday, making the long journey over the border to Island Park. With just six teams in the competition and Round 5 done and dusted, each side has now faced each other once this season. The Saints have recorded just one loss for the year - to East Gambier - while the Cats still search for their first win. Both Millicent and Casterton/ Sandford played close games last week, but one enjoyed success while the other did not. The Cats went down unexpectedly to West Gambier at Malseed Park by a heart wrenching nine points and coach Hamish Jarrad will hope his troops bounce back and be competitive this weekend. However, that is easier said than done. Clint Gallio has taken over the reins this season and with the help of a few recruits, Millicent is well and truly on its way to finals football. Along with the handy inclu- sions there has been passionate locals who have been with the Saints through the tough times and one of them is midfielder Tom Hutchesson. Hutchesson took a chance in Adelaide and played with Glenelg for some time, but returned to Millicent a few seasons ago and has stuck with his home side week in, week out. Another regular to step up to the plate and hold his position so far is Hamish Nitschke. He has been consistently in the best players and the young foot- baller’s grit and determination has been a big contributor to the Saints’ success so far. It will take a big effort from the Cats to shut down Millicent’s midfield with Gallio, Hutchesson and Nitschke all making their presence felt. Whether Bromley suits up in the ruck or down forward, Casterton/ Sandford will also need to limit his impact on the game in order to stay within reach. However, the Saints will need to play a strong defensive game also as the Cats to boast a number of quality players. Josh Stephenson, Dylan Ryan and Tom McArlein can all pull in tough marks and snap a tough goal to keep their side in touch. Casterton/Sandford also has the likes of Todd Clode and Tynan Shannon who have earned their stripes in the senior competition. Michael Cummings is another play-maker that Millicent will need to shut down if it is to return home with the premiership points. It was a heated opening round clash between these two sides and neither will give an inch on Saturday. With both sides still fresh and somewhat unsettled, the Saints 31-point victory in Round 1 is no indication as to how this match could pan out. Millicent will come in with confidence after a slim loss to East and a win over North. On the other hand, Casterton/ Sandford will give its all on the park in hope to solidify its first win of 2017. Despite the host’s best efforts, it is likely the Saints will take the honours. SPECIALS: Thursday 1st June until Tuesday 6th June 2017 for grabs J.L. ‘FRED’ SMITH fred@setimes.com.au THE Bruce Lightbody Memorial Shield will be on offer when Kongorong hosts Port MacDonnell in Saturday’s Mid South East Football League clash. Bruce Lightbody was president of the Kongorong Football Club and a Mid South East interleague official for many years. There is always a large gathering of supporters of Demons and Hawks when this grudge match is scheduled each year. It has been quite a while since the shield has left the Bay and Saturday’s winner is well hidden.
