MID SOUTH EAST NETBALL 21 Mozzies defeat struggling Hawks Winless Kongorong fall short again Mount Burr 51 d Kongorong 30 WITH both teams keen to make a great start to the game, Mount Burr got the first few goals on the scoreboard. Kongorong made a few simple errors which Mount Burr turned into goals. Tight defence from Mount Burr made it hard for Kongorong to bring the ball down the court. Kongorong had a better second quarter on the scoreboard, but Mount Burr’s Ann Guyett and Chloe Vanderhorst pressured every ball. Kongorong’s Ellie Waters and Sam Allen swapped the centre bib for fresh legs at half time. Mount Burr’s defence in Heidi Clark and Megan Thiele worked overtime and got many turnovers in Kongorong’s attack. Kongorong’s Tiia Pelkonen in her 100th club game worked hard in wing defence, pressuring many balls in Mount Burr’s defence. Kongorong’s goal attack STRETCH: Kongorong’s Sarah Lucas and Mount Burr’s Ebony Clark reach for the ball in the Mid South Eastern Netball Association clash on the weekend. Pictures: FRANK MONGER Tabatha Sanderson shot seven out of seven goals in the last quarter to help her team. At the other end Mount Burr’s Hayley Agnew and Ebony Clark worked tirelessly in the goal circle and four solid quarters saw Mount Burr come away with the win. Best Players for Kongorong were Tiia Pelkonen and Courtney Pink while for Mount Burr Hayley Agnew and Heidi Clark got the nod. Kalangadoo 61 d Hatherleigh 48 SARAH Haines took to the court for the first time for the Eagles in 2014, slotting in to the centre position and Hatherleigh came out firing with plenty of defensive pressure, getting out to a four goal lead. Both team’s goalies started strongly, shooting 16 each without a miss. LOOKING TO SCORE: Kongorong’s Kaylah Earl looks to gain position in the Mid South East Netball Association clash on the weekend. 15 and under Mount Burr 46 d Nangwarry 18 (T. McKeon, J. Leah Ousey and Kylie Schultz changed at the long break and Kalangadoo jumped out to a five goal lead in the third with plenty of movement and patience in the attack line while Hatherleigh on the other hand was forcing passes into the goalies with Kalangadoo capitalising on any turnovers, taking a 10 goal lead. Hatherleigh made a change in the last with Keston Green going back to goal shooter and Demi Smith moving out to goal attack, however Kalangadoo’s Caroline Davey, Melissa Russell and Jenna Pitt kept Hatherleigh’s defence working overtime for the whole game and were too strong, running out victors by 13. HANDS ON THE BALL: Mount Burr’s Chloe Vanderhorst and Kongorong’s Ellie Waters contest the ball in the Mid South Eastern Netball Association clash on the weekend. Glencoe 57 d Tantanoola 40 A HIGH standard game of netball saw goalies at both ends shooting with accuracy early. The defensive duo of Bromley and Little for Tantanoola was applying tight pressure, forcing Glencoe into errors, which on the whole we’re being converted at the other end by the hard working goalies. This allowed Tantanoola to take a three goal lead into the first break. Pressure all over the court saw the second quarter a tightly contested affair. Donna Jaeschke was starting to get her hands to plenty of balls and her precision passing into the McDiarmid enabled Glencoe to be within one at the main break. The third quarter belonged to Glencoe, who piled on the goals and had winners all over the court. The full court pressure forced many turnovers and the Tigers were punished by the accuracy of the Murphy’s goalies. Ashlea and Laura Edwards were finding plenty of space and driving hard into attack providing a safe avenue into the circle. Glencoe led by 13 at three quarter time and the game continued in the same vein in the final term which saw Glencoe extend its lead to 17 at the final whistle. Tantanoola was best served by Kate Bromley and Simone Little while Glencoe had good players all over the court but Donna Jaeschke and Ashlea Edwards were named best. Robe 47 d Nangwarry 33 ROBE began with a flurry against Nangwarry, making the first break and goaling through Keely Mason. The tight defensive game play put Nangwarry under pressure in the ring with its goalies finding it hard to convert. Mason dominated the quarter for Robe, scoring all her team’s goals and helping it to a 15-7 lead at the first break. Robe continued the pressure in the second term, with Nagwarry’s defence working hard through Gray and Nicole Reeves. Robe missed several opportu- nities and with Nicole Biszko moving well in the goal circle Nangwarry had a sniff of hope. In the third term Nangwarry made changes, bringing youngster Tayla McKeon on to replace Carly Ploenges. Mason missed easy penalty shot early which saw Nangwarry score the first goal for the quarter. But despite scrappy play from both sides, Robe began to take control with Nangwarry missing easy opportunities. Mason again found her range and Nangwarry failed to capitalise when in attack. Nangwarry again made changes at the break with Nicole Reeves to goal attack, Dinnison to centre and Ploenges to goal defence which saw the side score the first three goals of the final term through Biszko. But in a more even quarter Robe was simply too strong and finished comfortable victors. The South Eastern Times, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 - 21
