Rising female footy stars RISING stars Megan, Sarah and Jess Allan are making waves in the world of female football after competing in the Youth Girls National Championships in Canberra last week. The trio of sisters impressed on the fi eld after playing a series of high performance games and drawing attention from scouts and spectators. The championships saw girls under 18 represent their state and gain valuable experience playing at a higher level. The week-long affair kicked off with all teams parading on Marnika Oval prior to the Port Adelaide versus Greater Western Sydney game. There was a total of eight teams representing each state with over 200 girls competing. Megan played mostly in the ruck with a few stints at full forward. She fi nished the week with two goals and was named in the best players on one occasion. Sarah played mostly at centre half forward but also played half a game at centre half back and the last game in the ruck. She fi nished the week with fi ve goals and was listed as a best player in all four games. Sarah was one of two South Australian players named in the All Australian Team at centre half forward. Jess played on the wing and at half forward, she had a good week and was very reliable with her classy balls skills. The sisters train regularly as members of the South East Female Football Academy. Training sessions include skills and a game every Friday night at East Gambier’s McDonald Park from 6pm. Any keen female players who wish to learn about the game are encouraged to express interest to Nathan Stratford on 0427-979-238 or Keith Allan 0450-846-662.
