SPORT 27 Shooters tested skills with old fashioned side by sides SHOOTERS dusted off old side by side shotguns from gun safes for the second annual Aaron Leopold/Mark Fabris 75 target side by side shoot. The event drew shooters from interstate to come and test their skills with old fashioned side by sides against Lake Bonney’s targets. MATCHPLAY: Robyn Walters defeated Kaye Best to take her 12th club championship in a row. Walters goes back-to-back to win Beachport golf title ROBYN Walters has taken backto-back titles at the Beachport Golf Club’s A grade club championships with an impressive display to claim her 12th title in a row. In a repeat of last year’s play-off, Walters defeated Kaye Best on the 29th of a possible 36 holes to take the title. The win also gave Walters her 20th title overall. Best began the matchplay competition well, winning the first hole and remaining even after nine holes. But the experience of Walters began to show and Best struggled to cope with the pressure of the matchplay format. With seven holes still to play Walters had done enough to seal the title. In the 27-hole B grade champion- ship, Annie MacLennan defeated Julie Howe three up with just one hole remaining. In a tight match McLennan took an early lead, but Howe stayed with her and fought back to keep alive until the penultimate hole. The win gave McLennan her first championship victory after her recent winning form in the Southern Ports Competition. Club competition PLAYERS not involved in the championship games played a stableford competition in which Marie Pegler was the best with 30 points, ahead of Maureen Ruffin with 24 points. Kath Bishop was nearest the pin on the ninth hole. Women’s open day THE Beachport women have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming Ladies Open Day next Tuesday, sponsored again by Jardine Thompson and Lloyd Insurance Brokers. Entries are expected from all around the South East region and further afield. The competition of the day will be stableford for all grades and hit off will be at 9.30am.
