It’sall Aboutharry won at the handsome odds of 40/1. At the Barrier with David Gilbert Caused a boilover THREE days before last Sunday’s Casterton Cup meeting, and veteran Hamilton trainer Tony Laidlaw did not look like having a runner. He had It’sall Aboutharry accepted for the 1400 metre Benchmark 64 handicap, but the four-year-old gelding was fourth emergency. With four pre-race scratchings, It’sall Aboutharry made the fi nal fi eld, then there was the problem for Laidlaw of fi nding a jockey. Top Victorian jockey Linda Meech was free after her mount Quizman was one of those scratchings, but her manager knocked back Laidlaw’s invitation. Millicent jockey Paul Marks is not one to refuse a ride and his willingness was rewarded when It’sall Aboutharry caused a major boilover by winning easily, at 40/1 with Tattsbet. His wife Debbie was thrilled with the result (she always has a dollar or two on Paul’s mounts) and a bloke from Naracoorte had $10 each way, only because he liked the name. For most punters, it was a disaster as it was the fi rst leg of the quadrella, and the four-year-old gelding had never been placed from two previous fi rst up runs. Super day AT a time when some local racing clubs are struggling to keep the status quo for cup day crowds, the one exception in Casterton. Cup day last Sunday saw a modern day record crowd of 2133 turn up, a considerable rise on recent years. The support from the South East was excellent, with bus loads from Naracoorte and Mount Gambier making a social day of it. www.thesoutheasterntimes.com.au MILLICENT Football Netball Club’s Lisa Duldig will take to the court for her 250th senior club game on Saturday. Duldig fi rst started her netball career with Millicent in 1996 as a member of the Under 15 side. That year the side went on to win the premiership – a fi rst of many for Duldig. Mind you, a perfect autumn day helped but nevertheless Casterton Cup day is becoming a “mini Warrnambool” and has become a “must meeting” to attend for many. The setting at Casterton is fantastic, and fi rst timers to Casterton could not believe the steeplechase where the runners go out in the open country to where the Glenelg and Wannon rivers meet. The 1992 Melbourne Cup winner Subzero, born black but now a magnifi cent grey animal, was there to be patted and photographed with by people of all ages. Finley Harper, part owned down South End way, a winner on the fl at at Mount Gambier three weeks ago, made her jumping debut with an all the way victory in the hurdle. Winning a maiden hurdle in Victoria means a lot to owners these days as they pick up an extra $20,000 (on top of fi rst prize of $11,830). Darren Weir, Victoria’s premier trainer this season and a staunch supporter of Casterton racing for many years, won the cup when the favourite Bec Said No Credit ($2.80) proved far too good. The two horses to follow from the meeting come from out of the cup, Texan Warney and Gatalistic. Naracoorte today IT is back to midweek racing for the rest of the 2013-14 Limestone Coast season, starting at Naracoorte today with eight races and 88 fi nal acceptors. The quality of the fields are extremely good in most races, and Millicent trainers Craig Stewart, Ian Walker and Jeremy Kenny all have horses entered. The following year Duldig went on to win the runner-up best and fairest award, however she managed to go one further in 1998 when she won the best and fairest for the Under 15 team. At the tender age of 15 Duldig began her successful A grade career while also playing in the Under 17 side where she won the club best and fairest and the Tony Egan most consistent award. In 2000 Duldig continued to play in the A grade side where she was a part of the historical premiership win against North Gambier after a 15 year drought. This was only the beginning of premierships for Duldig as she went on to win nine more premierships in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 with the A grade. Throughout her time in the A grade side she has represented the Western Border Netball Association (WBNA) at interleague level and has been named in the Team-of-the-Year. Duldig’s individual achievements and awards include most improved (2001), A grade runnerup best and fairest (2008, 2009 and 2013) and WBNA A grade runner-up (2013). In 2011 Duldig was a part of the winning A grade representative team that travelled to Adelaide for the SA Country Championship – she was also selected in the top 10 A grade players at the championships. From 2008-2011 she co-captained the A grade team alongside teammate Hayley Dunn. Duldig has not only been a player at the club for the last 19 years but she has also volunteered her time to coach. She began coaching the Under 13 side in 2000 and she went on to coach the 17 and under side in 2007 and 2008 and co-coach the 13 and under side in 2010. This year she has taken the reins from Donna Denton and is coaching the A grade. Over the years Duldig has been well known for her positive attitude around the club, her level of fi tness and the skill she brings to the game as well as being a great role model for the junior players. Along with all her commitments Duldig has also found time to be a part of the netball committee. The Millicent Football Netball Club congratulates Duldig on achieving 250 games.
