Fuller claims gold MILLICENT basketballer Olivia Fuller has recently returned from the Pacifi c Rim Basketball Championships in Tauranga, New Zealand. Fuller returned with a gold medal after representing the Under 17 girls Australian Junior Country Cup (AJCBC) team. Only fi ve South Australian players were included in the squad. The SA members departed from Adelaide and met up with their New South Wales teammates for the fi rst time once arriving in New Zealand. The squad had one training session together before the tournament commenced. Coaches were impressed with how the team played together from the fi rst game onwards. The AJCBC team won each pool game convincingly including an impressive 100 point win. Fuller was involved in plenty of the action and had an impact on the scoreboard with many steals and strong attacks to the basket. The squad fi nished top of its pool and continued the winning form into the fi nals series. The grand fi nal was against the determined Rotorua side and was a more intense game but the skilled AJCBC girls were too strong for the Kiwi opponents and ran out winners by 23 points. It was a valuable exciting tournament for Fuller who gained not only a gold medal but new friends and travel experience. Fuller extended thanks to her supporters including the Millicent Basketball Association and coach Peter Seebohm, Wattle Range Council and the local businesses. Fuller’s focus is now on the Nationals Tournament in July where she will compete for South Australia Country along with Millicent teammate Alana Winter.
