Although the Mozzies kept their undefeated record intact, they appear to have lost fi rst year coach Frazer Scanlon to a longterm ankle injury. He was on crutches by game’s end and footy insiders are conceding that the worst-case scenario is that he may have played his last match for 2014. There are fears that the ankle may be broken or serious ligament damage. It is a double blow for the MSEFL as Scanlon was expected to play a key role in the MSEFL side as it takes to Vansittart Park in Mount Gambier on Saturday for the inaugural South East Zone Carnival. Scanlon’s serious injury overshadowed the signifi cance of the visitors’ win and marked the second time the seasiders have had their colours lowered at their fortress this season. Although the Demons were without such fi rst choice players as Josh Ransom, Tim Sullivan, Brad Stephens and Lachy Pratt, nothing should be taken away from Mount Burr’s four goal victory. of a calamitous 30 goal loss at home to Kalangadoo in Round 9 on June 14, the green-and-golds will reach the half-way mark of the homeand-away season in top spot. It has been a remarkable feat for Scanlon to lift the Mozzies from fi fth in 2013 as the only additions to the side have been himself, fellow recruit Tom Renzi and exMozzie Jonny Agnew. has delivered Mount Burr seven consecutive victories and this was evident in Saturday’s game. There were 11 individual goalscorers in the side’s impressive tally of 20.12 with the talented Dylan Ridley leading the way with four. The game had lived up to its top-billing with an arm wrestle of sorts developing by quarter time with each side booting 4.3. The Burr boys stepped us a gear in the second term when they added 3.4 while conceding just one scoring shot. Their half time advantage of 16 points was eked out to 20 points at the last change. The final term was another even affair but Mount Burr had another mini-victory in terms of a third consecutive quarter where it outscored its opponent. The usual key contributors fi lled the best player lists of the two teams but there is one name which continues to be mentioned by the Mount Burr hierarchy. Veteran Jamie Little is playing some of the best footy of his career and is determined it will not end without achieving a premiership medallion. Demon skipper Will Macdonald was again named best for his team and opposition clubs have yet to devise a way to keep him out of the game. At this stage, Port MacDonnell is in third place and two wins behind Tantanoola which has the bye in Round 9. The Demons won’t be assured of an easy game on June 14 as they head to Glencoe. It has been teamwork which Robe 18.8 (116) d Kongorong 12.15 (87) ROBE kept its slim fi nals hopes alive with an upset 29 point win at Kongorong. The Hawks have been playing some quality football of late and many pundits had predicted that their breakthrough win in 2014 would come at the expense of the Roosters. It has been a less-than-ideal week for the seasiders with key recruit and 2012 joint Western Border medallist Gareth Crawford announcing his intention to stay at the club and then reversing his decision a few days later. Despite this disappointment, the Roosters began well and took a nine point advantage into quarter time. The Hawks had one more scoring shot in this period but could not convert in front of goal. Inaccuracy was not the reason for Robe’s lead of 34 points at the long break.
