SPORT 19 The race is on Meanwhile, past premiership player Bill Lowndes played B Grade on Saturday and this was his first match for the Mozzies this season. On the other hand, Glencoe did not have the services of recruit Rick Dalby who had impressed on debut in Round 10. Next Saturday, Mount Burr heads to the seaside at Robe while Glencoe has the bye. Kalangadoo 4.7 (31) d Robe 2.6 (18) VERY heavy conditions made life tough for forwards at the Kalangadoo Oval but the home side would have been grateful to get the premiership points. The low scores and modest winning margin of 11 points would have barely increased the percentage of the Magpies and so they have surrendered top spot on the ladder. Another positive for the victors was the return of ex-coach Chrissy Mules who has missed almost three months with injury. All sorts of statistical records were probably set in this match as neither side scored in the third term while the visitors went to the last change with a tally of just 2.6 and the lead, as well. The Roosters may have thought their 230km round trip from the seaside was going to be worthwhile but it was not to be. They failed to score in the last term while the Magpies regained the lead and winning with a score of 2.2. The conditions were tailor-made for such veterans as the home team’s Michael Jones who was best-on-ground for the umpteenth time in his career. Port MacDonnell Nangwarry 4.3 (27) 5.11 (41) d THE Saints were close to going to heaven for the first time in 2014 but the Demons held on to win by 14 points. It was Nangwarry’s smallest loss of this season and Port MacDonnell’s lowest score. It was fitting that the seasiders got the premiership points as the scoring shot tally was 16 to 7 in their favour. Due to the sub-arctic conditions at the Bay, the half-time scoreboard read like a World Cup fixture as Port MacDonnell had one goal and so did Nangwarry. At that rate, an all-time MSEFL lowest game score would have been set. However, conditions improved slightly in the second half and this was averted. The oval was extremely heavy while the cross-wind was approaching gale force at times. Observers rated Nangwarry defender Matt Fatchen as the best-on-ground. Neither team was at full strength due to injuries with the Demons still waiting for skipper Will Macdonald and star recruit Josh Ransom to resume. The Saints need players of the calibre of coach Simon Merrett, onballer Brett Lindner and forward Tyson Ploenges back in the starting 18. MUD-FEST: Glenn Gascoyne of Tantanoola leads a Hatherleigh opponent to the leather. Spots a premium for finals contention From back page Robe coach Dylan Coxon was another who was expected to receive Mail Medal votes. In the warm-up match, Kalangadoo’s 2001 premiership coach and current A Grade assistant coach Peter Collins pulled on the boots. In round 11, Kalangadoo makes its short- est journey of the season and should easily account for the cellar dwellers at Nangwarry. TURNING TO SUPPORT: Simon Beggs of Hatherleigh looks downfield. OFF AND RUNNING: Hatherleigh’s Jack Sullivan heads off with the ball. WEATHER FOR MILLICENT Lower South East District Forecast: Tuesday Cloudy. Patchy morning fog.
