Mid South East football 400 up for Jacqui Great milestone for Glencoe netball stalwart GLENCOE netballer Jacqui Cocks last week achieved a monumental milestone for any sportsperson. Cocks joined the elite 400 club – having played 400 games of senior netball with her beloved Murphies. Over the past 36 years Cocks has displayed an unwavering loyalty to the Glencoe Netball Club and been an integral component of every facet of the club. Last week that dedication and loyalty was recognised when she reached her 400 senior game milestone. As a young netballer Jacqui (then Medhurst) began her playing career with Glencoe in 1978. She progressed through the junior ranks, making her A grade debut during her fi nal year eligible in what was then known as the C grade competition, the equivalent to what is now known as 17 and Under. In the years following, Cocks became an integral part of the Glencoe A grade side and has subsequently played in every senior grade at the club. In 1988, Cocks was a member of the C grade Mid South East Netball Association representative side and fi nally, after 27 prior seasons with the club, realised every player’s ultimate ambition of a premiership – as the playing coach of the 2006 Glencoe B grade premiership side. She went on to achieve a second premiership in the B reserve side of 2008. Cocks has always been a tall, athletic and versatile player, troubling opposition at both ends of the court. She is a strong goaler who adeptly holds the space and is able to bring her shooting partner into the game with her exceptional experience and play reading ability. Cocks equally asserts her authority at the other end of the court, where again her strength and experience shines through, being able to block and rebound with ease. As anyone who has known FAMILY PRIDE: Abbie Cocks pictured with her mother Jacqui, on the day Jacqui reached the elite 400-club, having played 400 senior games of netball for Glencoe. Jacqui is now playing coach of her daughter’s B grade side in this season’s competition. Cocks through netball or football circles would know, her main passion and her ultimate achievement is her family. She was married to Robbie Cocks in 1990 and they now have three children – Sam, Zacc and Abbie. This final season would be one greatly treasured by Cocks, in which she is playing alongside her 18-year-old daughter Abbie in the B grade side. While her playing achieve- ments have been outstanding in themselves, Cocks has given so much more to the Glencoe Netball Club than merely serving as a player, SPECIALS Wednesday 16th July ‘til Tuesday 22nd July 2014 which was reflected in her being awarded life membership of the club in 2010. She was the president of the Glencoe Netball Club for four seasons between 2007 and 2010 and was the vicepresident in 2006.
