J.L. “FRED” fred@setimes.com.au 15.21 noola 14.10 (94) OUTTA MY WAY: Mount Burr’s Dylan Gambles tries the old “Don’t Argue” trick with Tantanoola’s Braydn Reilly. FREE KICK: Not sure if this was paid as a free kick to Mount Burr’s Chris Murray, but Tantanoola’s Chris Hale has definitely offended with this shoulder high tactic. Murphies smash Saints From back page Coach Simon Merrett returned to the Saints for just his third match in about three months while ace forward Tyson Ploenges was also back and achieved a team-high tally of three goals. There were a number of unsavoury incidents in this match and some onlookers were surprised that only one player was sent off the ground. Nangwarry’s Brett Lindner was reported for striking and club officials have signalled he will accept a one-match set penalty. It was a day of mixed fortunes for Adam Gartside, of the Saints. He booted a match-winning goal for the B grade team right on the final siren. However, his celebrations were shortlived as he had to suit up for the one-sided A grade contest. The B gade result was not welcomed by the Murphies as, even with the Gartside goal; the scoreboard had showed the Murphies had won the match. After the usual checks were made by timekeepers and goal umpires, it was indeed revealed the Saints had won. Looking to Round 15, Glencoe returns home to host Tantanoola while Nangwarry makes the long journey to Robe. WEATHER FOR MILLICENT Lower South East District Forecast: Tuesday Mostly sunny. The Tigers almost snatched victory as they were only three points in arrears as the final siren neared. However, the visitors slammed on two goals in the final 90 seconds of play. The Mozzies would have been glad of the premiership points due to the absence of players of the calibre of Frazer Scanlon (coach), Scott Gamble, Scott Bevan, Justin Nowak and Peter Guyett. Among the replacements was the youngest of the three Gamble brothers, Dylan, who was back in his home town of Millicent as his SANFL club Glenelg was having a bye. The 2012 joint Mail Medallist starred in the first half with three goals and finished the match with a mention in the best players. A large crowd was in attendance including members of Tantanoola’s premiership-winning team from 1994 who had their own viewing marquee alongside the C.W. Haines Stand. Visiting forward Chris Murray snapped the first goal of the match and then an exciting shootout ensued for the following 28 minutes. The scores were level as quarter-time approached when Gamble took a fine mark. His set shot from a range of 35 metres gave his side a six point buffer going into the first break. The Mozzies increased that margin by a power of seven in a devastating second term when they added 6.8 to just 2.1. Inspired by onballers Dylan Ridley and skipper Clint Gallio, Mount Burr showed why they are the favourites to add to their record number of premierships. With dark clouds gathering, Tantanoola looked sunk as they went to the long break 43 points in arrears. Surrenders top spot despite narrow victory ABOUT TO BE NABBED: Mount Burr’s Nathan Muhovics is about to tackled by Tantanoola’s Jack Dawe while Dylan Gamble is on hand to support Muhovics. However, they rebounded in the third term to add 6.2 while conceding just five behinds. Led by Tim Stringer and Dustin Knaggs, the Tigers showed the spirit which had been lacking in the second term. The Tiger cause was assisted by a number of 50 metre penalties awarded against their opponents. The margin was whittled back to 20 points at the final change and the home team again outscored the visitors in that thrilling last term. Mount Burr hosts Kongorong in Round 15 while Tantanoola heads to Glencoe. INSTRUCTION TIME: Tantanoola coach Jason Dawe directs his players at the quarter time break. 648461
