NEWS 11 Teresa races to top Former Millicent rider takes out title in Darwin MUSTILLO RAQUEL journo1@setimes.com.au of 200kph is not for the faint of heart, but for champion motorcyclist Teresa Dunn it is part of life. “The excitement of speed in a controlled environment and pushing my own boundaries a little at a time is why I enjoy it,” she said. “I always hope to go faster than the last time and have some on track dicing with fellow competitors.” The former Millicent resident is carving her name into the history books after winning the inaugural fastest lady rider trophy at the annual Top End Territory Challenge in Darwin last month. Hosted by the Top End Road Racing Association (TERRA), the event draws competitors from around the country to participate in four days of practice and three days of racing. The track to the success has not always been smooth for Teresa, but broken bones have done little to deter her from riding. “I fi rst attempted riding when I was 16 years old, but after crashing my brother’s Suzuki 185, he wouldn’t let me ride it any more,” she said. “I’ve always had friends who had motorbikes and I was usually a pillion, so when I was 32 I thought it was time I got my own bike and licence.” Teresa’s life in the fast lane began while living in Mallala, the home of motorsport in South Australia. “I was very interested in improving KNEE DOWN: Champion motorbike racer Teresa Dunn takes a corner in one of her races during the Top End Territory Challenge last month.
