Mid SE footy y Thursday Edition THE SOUTH EASTERN TIMES Edwards dynasty continues Four sisters and future sister-in-law line up in Glencoe’s A grade netball team EARL ASHLEY ashley@tbw.com.au LAST Saturday was a memohistoric day for the Glencoe Football and Netball Club, Edwards family. All four Edwards sisters played together in Glencoe’s A grade netball side against Kongorong. While, Donna, Ashlea and Laura are regular players in the Murphies side, Saturday was a day Sarah Edwards will not forget. The 13-year-old made her A grade debut with her three sisters, right by her side. A rare occurrence and an exceptional achievement, the Edwards sisters occupied more than half of the oncourt positions. With a fi fth position being occupied by their brother Jamie’s fiancé, Rebecca Wilson, the court was covered with family. Mother of the Edwards daughters, Cassie is the current Glencoe Netball Club president and A grade team manager. Edwards son and brother, Tom is a current member of the A grade football side, while the Edwards father Les is a life member and past president of the Glencoe Football Club. It is clear the Edwards’ certainly like to keep things in the family. All four Edwards sisters have had strong netball careers, with each of them having represented the Mid South East Netball Association at interleague level. They began their A grade careers at an early age and have developed into impressive netballers. Donna is the current playing coach of the A grade side and played her 100th game for the club on the weekend. She has coached A grade FIVE FILLED: Ashlea, Laura and Sarah Edwards with future sister-in-law Rebecca Wilson and Donna Jaeschke (nee Edwards) covered fi ve on the seven positions in Glencoe’s A grade netball side last Saturday. for three years and is the netball club’s current secretary. Donna married Matthew Jaeschke last year, who is the B grade football vice-captain and committee member. Ashlea is team captain of the A grade netball side and shows leadership and intelligence on-court. Laura plays A grade on a permanent basis, while also being eligible for and playing in the 17 and under side. Sarah was the 13 and under league best and fairest in 2012 and runner-up league best and fairest in the 15 and under in 2013. She has now made her A grade debut and is showing she is a player to watch in the future. With the Edwards sisters guiding their team to a 27 goal victory, this was a memorable occasion and one each of the girls would have been proud to be involved in. SPECIALS Wednesday 13th August ‘til Tuesday 19th August 2014 LEADER: Donna Jaeschke (nee Edwards) is the current A grade netball coach. Jaesche received her 100 games on the same day took to the court with her three sisters in the Glencoe A grade side. MEMORABLE: Ashlea Edwards played along side her three sisters in a game Glencoe Netball Club will not forget. ONE OF FOUR: Laura Edwards was one of the four sisters to take to the court in Glencoe’s clash with Kongorong last weekend. DEBUT: Glencoe’s Sarah Edwards made her A grade debut with her sisters support recently. The 13-year-old was a large contributor to the Murphies win over Kongorong.
