Standing in front of the Bank SA building and with Justice of the Peace Denis Clifford looking on, Wattle Range Mayor Peter Gandolfi had the task of randomly picking the three winning tickets from the barrel. The winning ticket was in the name of Brydie Merrett, who took home an array of products. Second prize went to Becky Davis and third to Angela Gibbs. All winners are from Millicent. Raffle chairman and Lion David Archer said the proceeds would benefit community projects. Beachport music festival hailed a great success From front page Organiser Casey Ettridge hopes the Outlet Festival will be staged again in 2015, but said a firm decision would not be made until a financial assessment was made. “I am leaning towards ‘yes’ but we will have to check the figures,” he said. “Hopefully, the community will push for it to be held again next year. “With performers coming from as far away as Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide, I have had great feedback about the festival.” Mr Ettridge also did a couple of brackets at the head of his nine-piece band Secret Tsunami, including one with his father Dean Ettridge. He was full of praise for the efforts of the performers, bar and security staff and acknowledged the support of Beachport Hotel management and the police contingent headed by Brevet Sergeant Peter Phillips. “As a thank you gesture, dad and I will be performing at the Beachport Hotel on New Year’s Eve,” he said. Meanwhile, a small number of people got carried away with the festive spirit and police had to act. Three people were arrested, including a 22-year-old Northgate man for re-entering a licensed premises after being removed, a 25-year-old Coromandel Valley man for assault and a 21-year-old Millicent man for disorderly behaviour. Eight people were fined for consumption or possession of liquor in a dry zone, three people for urinating in a public place and five people were evicted. There is plenty to do in Beachport at this time of the year, with music and movies at other seaside venues. The Beachport District Development Association has again arranged two spectacular fireworks displays from the end of the Beachport jetty to mark the end of 2014. They will be held at 9pm and midnight tomorrow. The long-running Beachport street market will be held on Railway Terrace on Saturday morning with the everpopular Duck Race at Siloam in the afternoon. the Pool of Several Beachport households are taking part in a garage sale trail on Sunday. Swimming lessons and the Coastal Connections environmental program will also get underway at Beachport in the new year. By comparison, most of the year-end celebrations have already occurred in Millicent with 900 taking part in the George Street Christmas Eve street party on Wednesday. A combination of pleasant weather and a return to the traditional December 24 date meant crowd numbers were well up on 2013. Wattle Range Council took over responsibility for staging the street party this year and coordinated the entertainment, food stalls and children’s activities. As in years gone by, a genial spirit of goodwill pervaded the Millicent central business district with party goers extending season’s greetings to each other. Some Millicent churches held Christmas Eve services while a number of retailers extended their trading hours until 9pm. THERE’S N BEING I 656648 651225 Ro r u s n d e e shuttle b f r o m a t c r k !
